The INNOVACT project and its implementation on the Chile-Peru border were presented on September 23, 2019 to the ambassadors of the member states of the European Union (EU) during their visit to the border region of Tacna.
The delegation led by the European Union ambassador in Peru, Diego Mellado, was made up of the ambassadors: Stefan Herzberg (Germany), Gerhard Zettl (Austria), Koenraad Lenaerts (Belgium), Antoine Grassin (France), Dr. Alfonso Henriques Abreu de Azeredo (Portugal) and Cecilia Ekholm (Sweden). This visit was aimed at promoting cooperation ties and strengthening its policies to approach Peruvian society.
The presentation of INNOVACT and the exchange with the ambassadors were carried out by Alice Ruczinski (INNOVACT Focal Point based in Lima), Kareen Rios (Manager of a company in the tourism sector and manager of cross-border cooperation projects) and Ursula Cavero (Manager of the Pro Olivo Association of Peru). During the visit, the concepts of the project, its objectives as well as the results to date of INNOVACT I and II were discussed. Furthermore, the action plan for the cross-border development of priority value chains on this border with the focus on "Intelligent and Sustainable Agriculture and Adventure Tourism" was presented.
“Together with the ambassadors of the European Union, we started a three-day visit to Tacna, a city with a lot of history and economic, social and tourist opportunities. We are excited to see how regional integration takes place in this region that contributes 1.3% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and is the 15th departmental economy to contribute to Peru,” said the European Union ambassador to the Peru, Diego Mellado.
