In order to strengthen cross-border collaboration in innovation, the Research Secretariat, Innovation and Higher Education (SIIES), the Yucatecan Institute of Entrepreneurs (IYEM), and the National Secretariat of Science and Technology (SENACYT) of Guatemala signed a Memorandum of Understanding on March 27.The collaboration will have a strong focus on the promotion of programmes and projects of innovation, entrepreneurship and technological development, which will bring together actors from both regions and facilitate a multidisciplinary environment that focuses on solving problems with a regional impact. A starting point will be a focus on specific areas such as renewable energies, agro-industry, circular economy and sustainable development, as well as innovation and technological development and high impact entrepreneurship. The director of SENACYT, Óscar Manuel Cobar Pinto, emphasized that in this strategic alliance, projects with a high level of impact have been identified with the support of INNOVACT. Previously, the Mexican and Guatemalan authorities continued working on INNOVACT agreements and proposed actions in which, for example, a plan for three INNOVACT capacity development events was defined.
