For the week of June 4th – 9th, interested LATAM representatives are invited to visit Brussels as well as EU border regions for a study visit on EU cross-border cooperation. The objective of the study visit to Europe in June 2018 is to allow border region stakeholders from Europe and Latin America to exchange experiences on specific aspects of cross-border cooperation in support of innovation. The working meetings will provide Latin American participants to gain first-hand knowledge and understanding of the types of actions implemented by cross-border regions in support of innovation and value chain development.
After a two-day working session in Brussels, LATAM representatives will travel to EU cross-border regions to learn about their approaches and experiences. One of the field visits will be held in Italy and Slovenia.
The host institutions for the field visit are the autonomous Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region as well as the Slovenian Podravje Energy Agency. Friuli-Venezia Giulia is one of the five autonomous regions with special statute in Italy, the regional capital is Trieste. The Slovenian local energy agency was established in 2006 and covers the area of the Municipality of Maritor and 15 smaller municipalities in Podravje region with around 180.000 inhabitants. Another partner and organiser of the field visit is the Slovenian Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy which is responsible for the implementation of the European Cohesion Policy as well as national development.
The working sessions of the field visit will focus on the following topics:
- Presentation of the Italy-Slovenia Cooperation Programme: exchange and discussion of experiences
- Presentation of the CBC programmes and other innovation projects
- Cross-border governance to provide public services and investments
- Innovation companies in Slovenia: concrete examples
- Study Visit: Agrifood & Bioeconomy Cluster Agency
