Europa

For the week of June 4th – 9th, interested LATAM representatives are invited to visit Brussels as well as EU border regions for a study visit on EU cross-border cooperation. The objective of the study visit to Europe in June 2018 is to allow border region stakeholders from Europe and Latin America to exchange experiences on specific aspects of cross-border cooperation in support of innovation. The working meetings will provide Latin American participants to gain first-hand knowledge and understanding of the types of actions implemented by cross-border regions in support of innovation and value chain development.

After a two-day working session in Brussels, LATAM representatives will travel to EU cross-border regions to learn about their approaches and experiences. One of the field visits will be held in Aragon and Aquitane / Midi Pyrénées. Find out more about the cross-border region here.

The host institution for the field visit is Campus Iberus. Campus Iberus, a valuable partner of the INNOVACT Platform, is the Campus of International Excellence (CIE) of the Ebro Valley, a strategic alliance formed by public universities of the autonomous communities of Aragon, La Rioja, the Chartered Community of Navarre as well as that of the province of Lleida in Catalonia. Furthermore, the Working Group of the Pyrénées is a relevant actor regarding cross-border cooperation in the region.

One of the key topics of the field visit will be the Cross-Border Smart Specialisation Strategy (RIS3T) established by Aragon. The strategy is an integrated agenda of territorial economic development and one of the main structuring and planning instruments for joint activities. Its purpose is to identify the characteristics and assets of the region, highlighting the competitive advantage and bringing together regional stakeholders and resources to stimulate knowledge-based development.

The working sessions of the field visit will focus on the following topics:

  • Smart Specialization Strategy of Aragon. Cross-border cooperation frameworks with Nouvelle Aquitaine and Midi Pyrénées
  • Working Community of the Pyrenees and the Interreg V-A Programme Spain-France-Andorra
  • Structures and projects for cross-border cooperation Aragón - Nouvelle Aquitaine and Midi Pyrénées (e.g. projects on tourism innovation, cross-border projects with Campus Iberus)
  • Study visit to Canfranc: connectivity as a key element of cross-border collaboration
